Optimist Yachting
yachting\kayaking day one by $urfer$am on GoAnimate
Reflection for yachting and kayaking.
Something I was pleased with was I encouraged others to participate because I felt proud of myself
I really enjoyed learning how to go round the corner safely because last year we nearly fell out every time.
Something I found hard was not trying to face the wind.
Because I would keep turning into the wind.
Something that made me think was if I pulled the mainsheet to hard would it make us tip or go faster because my buddies didn’t really want to tip but they wanted to go fast.
Something I want to get better at is going faster.

Chinkara Gazelle Report
The hidden Chinkara gazelle.
Today Joshua and Henry are making a report on a Chinkara.
A Chinkara is a type of deer that lives in the wild.
So read this report and tell me if this is interesting.
Description
A Chinkara is a type of deer that can last without water for a long, long time. Another name for the Chinkara is a gazelle. The adult Chinkara stands about 65 cm tall and it weighs about 23 kgs.
A Chinkara has a smooth reddish coat in the summer and in the colder months the Chinkaras chest, belly and throat become a few shades lighter.
Life
They live for 12 to 15 years but they normally get killed by other animals or they get taken to a zoo. The female only has one or two babies a year. Males compete for the rights of the baby. There is more men gazelle so men don’t always get a women.
Habitat
They live in Plain grasslands, open jungles and tropical woodlands. There habitat is spread over different regions.
They also live in Deserts, Forests, Hot Deserts, Shrublands, Tropical Dry forest and Tropical Dry Shrubland.
Diet
The Chinkara will eat Grasses, Many types of fruit, Green leaves and Buds of flowers in the wild. They class the Chinkara as a vegetarian.
They will eat grubs if really hungry.
Threats
- Stray dogs.
Stray dogs get into like a square with the Chinkara in the middle then they all walk up on it.
- Lions
Lions kill gazelles at night.
- Tigers
They will stalk them at night.
- Hyena
Hyenas kill baby gazelle. so it is easier to chase them down.
- Cheetah
Cheetahs run them down and pick on the cubs.
- Humans
Shoot them and catch them in nets and cages.
Did you know?
They can survive without water.
Poacher don’t get gazelle as much as stray dogs do.
Five to seven Chinkara are injured daily.
They mate once a year and males compete for access to females.
Thanks for reading our report and I hope you learnt a bit too. why did you copy it.

Graphs for maths
In room 16 we have been doing basic facts tests. Mr M said we could make a chart about our maths scores so we did. He sent us a video how to do it.in class we have been doing tests then after we get our mark out of 25. Then we go to the mat and get everybody's score on a stem and leaf graph. We had to figure out the percentages of our score so if I got 23 out of 25 you would times 23 4 times because 25 goes in to 100 4 times. My highest score was 25 out of 25 on day 8 I think I got 25 out of 25 because the question were easy to guess. My lowest score was 15 I think I got because the question were harder.
day score %
1 21 84
2 24 96
3 23 92
4 24 96
5 18 72
6 24 96
7 24 96
8 25 100

My Letter To Ken Catran
This is my letter to ken Catran
Parkvale School
Hastings
Howard St
4122
Hawkes Bay
New Zealand
Dear Ken Catran
Parkvale room 16 has been reading your wonderful story but it did creep me out at times like at the end where they get stuck in the school closet and the school was on fire. But at the same time it was sad like at the start where Harry died and the end where Harry the ghost just disappeared.
My favourite character was Elias Milton because he was always scaring people and making the story scarier. I also like Sam because he made the story interesting.
My favourite parts of the story were when Sam ate the poisoned sandwich or when the killers revealed their self and started a fire then when the teacher went running down the field and fell over and spilt all of her money. I liked them because they were funny and scary and Ken Catran dragged the story out longer so we really wanted to read it.
Room 16 would like to thank you for writing Dead Harry. We all enjoyed it and after every chapter we would talk to our learning buddies about what we like about it and what we think will happen next.
Sincerely Henry Roil Parkvale School.

I am a wakeboard
This is my poem that I made using fotobabble. I hope you like it.
I am a wakeboard
I am a wakeboard
I am able to swim
I am happy when you ride me
I am sad when you put me away for winter
I wish I could fly
I would like to tell my owner that I can run.

Inanga Report
The fish that nobody has barely heard of, the inanga.
Inanga are a fish that swims around without a care in the world but today they will care because someone is interested in them. So if you read this the inanga will care so please READ THIS!!!
Description
Slimy, Tiny, with HEAPS of energy. The inanga is silver on the stomach and has brown spots on the outside. They are about 2.5CM. They have gills. They have three fins.
Habitat
They live in slow moving, lowland open rivers, streams and lakes across New Zealand. They are very bad climbers, and can not climb up waterfalls or up steep gradients in the water.
LIFE CYCLE
WHAT THEY EAT?
Anything that can fit in their mouths and they rip meat of dead animals that people have through into the water.
DID YOU KNOW?
At my house I have a creek round the back so I take my friend fishing there. Its easy to catch them so we normally catch about 20-30. Once you have caught them they're fun to watch.
If you put weed in the tank or wherever the inanga is it helps them live longer.
Action
Smart, always alert, hide in the weed.
Threats
People, eels, bigger fish, nets, dogs, sheep, cats,
Types in N.Z.
Giant kokopu, Koaro, short jawed kokopu, banded kokopu, Inanga.
Now you know that there is another fish swimming round in your waterways.
From Henry

Rock hopping
“Get a move on!” yelled Josh. Man, Josh is impatient. I am trying my best to swing around this flat rock the hard way and my hands just couldn’t grip onto the rock . He’s following me. It’s the first day of camp and Room 16 are rock climbing/hopping. Rock hopping all round a lake called Lake Kiriopukae. I was having so much fun. Then, finally, I swung round. I jumped on to the next rock. It felt like I was running away from fire. That’s how fast I was going (I hate fire). I run round and up a triangle rock. I grab onto the top and.... slip I try again. I reach the top and... pull myself up I’m so pleased. I slide down the other side.
I run up the rock then bounce off it and grab the other one and pull myself up. Yes! I’m the first one up then I slide down the other side. Wow that was bumpy ride down.
I run up a rock and 360 and grab the top (well that’s what I wished). I run to the finish then everybody else comes running. Yes I’m the first person to get an apple and biscuits I sit down but I don’t have a rest because I want more............

Caves
“Get comfortable” I tell Josh because theres about two minutes to wait. Later, we’re moving again. I commando crawl my way out. I pull my legs up and out of the hole then line up for the next caves.
Its the next cave where we have to go on my hands and knees. Splash! I slip on to my stomach. Oh no, I fell into a mud puddle. I start to crawl out but then I’m stuck. I’m moving as hard as I can. Whoooosh! I slide out of the mud. Next, I get onto my feet and climb the rest. We walk to where its dry. We’re sitting underneath a overhanging rock. I walk around looking for bugs to scare Sam because he through a mud ball at me. Theres a cockroach. I pick it up by the antennas and throw it at Sam “AAAAAHHHH” he screams. I laugh hes angry and embarrassed! then we move on to the next cave.
We start walking in the cave then it gets lower. We’re crawling on our hands and knees. We pop out of a hole then go down a ladder. We stop and wait for the rest of the class, its a zig zag all the way up. Finally, I reach my destination but I still have to go a little bit longer, its a wee wait, but we reach the end and squeeze our way out. I pause Miss Hill takes a photo click click and I slide out then line up for a biscuit. I race to get my seat at the sandy overhanging rock and I sit down and have a rest. I start asking Crighton what was his favorite part about the caves he liked the last one because it was the muddiest one. Where moving onto the next cave now I’m so excited because this cave had heaps of wetas then we walk in and all I can hear is who farted I have a whiff up my nose WOW!!!! thats a strong scent .

Kayaking
“Left right left right”I say to Sam as where paddling through the water I’m having so much fun because kayaking is one of my favorite things to do because it involves water and I love water.
we are just cruising along the water when BAM!!! we get splash we turn around to see who it is its......
Nikita. We start paddling like we have never before. Left Right Left Right then I bring my paddle forward just scoop water onto my paddle then stop and make sure I don’t let go of the paddle. Wooshh!!!!! the water flicks off my paddle we watching her reaction she screws up her face like a prune. We quickly turn around and speed off then cruise for a while we pretend to shot the ducks. We get called in and swap kayak's with people who haven't been then I hope in a kayak with lily because I have to teach her how to row so I hope in and say that you need to have the paddle with the curve to scoop the water.
Dodge ball

______________________________________________________________________
Here are all the speshes of whales heres their names:
Humpback whale(17 metres)
Common dolphin (2.4 metres)
Grey whale (15 metres)
bowhead whale (18 metres)
Sperm whale (20 Metres)
Killer whale (9 Metres)
Blue whale (30 metres)
Narwhal (6 Metres)
Southern right whales (17 metres)
Spectacled porpoise (2.1 Metres)
Bottlenose dolphin 3.8 metre
___________________________________________________________________
What they use their tusk for?
It is actually an extra long tooth. They use it for ice breaking, fighting
______________________________________________________________________________
What do narwhal eat?
Narwhals create a sort-of vacuum and suck up their food which includes squid, Greenland halibut, shrimp, Arctic cod, rockfish, flounder, and crab. Narwhals only have two vestigial teeth. The male narwhal tusk is thought to play no role in feeding because males and tuskless females consume the same diet.
______________________________________________________________________________
How long do narwhal live for? How do they die?
Narwhals may live for 30-40 years. The only real animal predator of narwhals are killer whales that journey up to the Arctic regions. Narwhals are hunted by Inuit people for their skin, oil, meat, and tusks.
______________________________________________________________________________
Where do narwhal live?
Narwhals spend their whole lives in Arctic waters, bordering Russia, North America, and Greenland.
______________________________________________________________________________
How can I indentfy a narwhal male to female?
Male Narwhal are easy to identify because of there long white tusk. The tusk tend to be covered in algae except for the tip. Adult male and female narwhal are mottled and spotted grey, green, black and cream colour. Narwhal are born grey, darken in colour and then, starting with the belly, whiten with age.
______________________________________________________________________________
Description?
They have one very long tooth or tusk they live in the water there preditor is the killer whale. They are very pretty.
