Mathletics

Reflection for mathletics
intro:
Last week we did some mathletics designs The first two days we did the ones Mr Moriarty asked us to do. then we started our own on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,

Something I was pleased with was that I got all the measurements right because last year I had small shapes and big shapes.
I really enjoyed learning how to make the designs because It is quite hard without the sheets.

Something I found hard was getting straight lines because the ruler would always move.
Something that made me think was what design to do because
there are 32 designs.
Something I want to get better at is using the compass, something I can do about it is practice, practice, practice... Practice makes perfect.

Air

Air

What is Air? Air is magical it keeps us alive and I am here to tell you that air does exists.

_______________________________________________________________
Experiment: Does air exists.

Equipment: Container filled with h2o
A Jar
paper towel                           hi

Predict: yes the paper will stay dry because the air is trapped inside.

What happened: the first time it got wet because it went in on a lean. It didn't get wet the second time because it went straight down  the air stayed in and the paper towel stayed dry because the air couldn’t get out so the water couldn’t come in.

Explain: First you get a bucket and fill it so the water is taller than the jar. Then you screw the paper up and shove it in the jar and put it in the water if bubbles come up the air has escaped and the water would have got in.

Optimist Yachting

yachting\kayaking day one by $urfer$am on GoAnimate

Reflection for yachting and kayaking.
Something I was pleased with was I encouraged others to participate because I felt proud of myself
I really enjoyed learning how to go round the corner safely because last year we nearly fell out every time.

Something I found hard was not trying to face the wind.
Because I would keep turning into the wind.
Something that made me think was if I pulled the mainsheet to hard would it make us tip or go faster because my buddies didn’t really want to tip but they wanted to go fast.
Something I want to get better at is going faster.

Chinkara Gazelle Report

The hidden Chinkara gazelle.
Today Joshua and Henry are making a report on a Chinkara.
A Chinkara is a type of deer that lives in the wild.
So read this report and tell me if this is interesting.

Description

A Chinkara is a type of deer that can last without water for a long, long time. Another name for the Chinkara is a gazelle. The adult Chinkara stands about 65 cm tall and it weighs about 23 kgs.
A Chinkara has a smooth reddish coat in the summer and in the colder months the Chinkaras chest, belly and throat become a few shades lighter.

Life

They live for 12 to 15 years but they normally get killed by other animals or they get taken to a zoo. The female only has one or two babies a year. Males compete for the rights of the baby. There is more men gazelle so men don’t always get a women.

Habitat

They live in Plain grasslands, open jungles and tropical woodlands. There habitat is spread over different regions.
They also live in Deserts, Forests, Hot Deserts, Shrublands,  Tropical Dry forest and Tropical Dry Shrubland.

Diet

The Chinkara will eat Grasses, Many types of fruit, Green leaves and Buds of flowers in the wild. They class the Chinkara as a vegetarian.
They will eat grubs if really hungry.

Threats

  • Stray dogs.
Stray dogs get into like a square with the Chinkara in the middle then they all walk up on it.
  • Lions
Lions kill gazelles at night.
  • Tigers
They will stalk them at night.
  • Hyena
Hyenas kill baby gazelle. so it is easier to chase them down.
  • Cheetah
Cheetahs run them down and pick on the cubs.
  • Humans
Shoot them and catch them in nets and cages.

Did you know?

They can survive without water.
Poacher don’t get gazelle as much as stray dogs do.
Five to seven Chinkara are injured daily.
They mate once a year and males compete for access to females.

Thanks for reading our report and I hope you learnt a bit too. why did you copy it.

Graphs for maths

In room 16 we have been doing  basic facts tests. Mr M said we could make a chart about our  maths scores so we did. He sent us a video how to do it.in class we have been doing tests then after we get our mark out of 25. Then we go to the mat and get everybody's score on a stem and leaf graph. We had to figure out the percentages of our score so if I got 23 out of 25 you would times 23 4 times because 25 goes in to 100 4 times. My highest score was 25 out of 25 on day 8 I think I got 25 out of 25 because the question were easy to guess. My lowest score was 15 I think I got because the question were harder.

day      score           %
1           21              84
2           24              96
3           23              92
4           24              96
5           18              72
6           24              96
7           24              96
8           25              100
9           22              88

My Letter To Ken Catran

This is my letter to ken Catran

Parkvale School
Hastings
Howard St
4122
Hawkes Bay
New Zealand

Dear  Ken Catran

Parkvale room 16 has been reading your wonderful story but it did creep me out at times like at the end where they get stuck in the school closet and the school was on fire. But at the same time it was sad like at the start where Harry died and the end where Harry the ghost just disappeared.

My favourite character  was Elias Milton because he was always scaring people and making the story scarier. I also like Sam because he made the story interesting.

My favourite parts of the story were when Sam ate the poisoned sandwich or when the killers revealed their self and started a fire then when the teacher went running down the field and fell over and spilt all of her money. I liked them because they were funny and scary and Ken Catran dragged the story out longer so we really wanted to read it.

Room 16 would like to thank you for writing Dead Harry. We all enjoyed it and after every chapter we would talk to our learning buddies about what we like about it and what we think will happen next.

Sincerely Henry Roil Parkvale School.

I am a wakeboard

This is my poem that I made using fotobabble. I hope you like it.
I am a wakeboard
I am a wakeboard
I am able to swim
I am happy when you ride me
I am sad when you put me away for winter
I wish I could fly

I would like to tell my owner that I can run.

Inanga Report

The fish that nobody has barely heard of, the inanga.
Inanga are a fish that swims around without a care in the world but today they will care because someone is interested in them. So if you read this the inanga will care so please READ THIS!!!
Description
Slimy, Tiny, with HEAPS  of energy. The inanga is silver on the stomach and has brown spots on the outside. They are about 2.5CM. They have gills. They have three fins.
Habitat
They live in slow moving, lowland open rivers, streams and lakes across New Zealand. They are very bad climbers, and can not climb up waterfalls or up steep gradients in the water.
LIFE CYCLE

Eggs-Larvae-Whitebait-Inanga

WHAT THEY EAT?
Anything that can fit in their mouths and they rip meat of dead animals that people have through into the water.
DID YOU KNOW?
At my house I have a creek round the back so I take my friend fishing there. Its easy to catch them so we normally catch about 20-30. Once you have caught them they're fun to watch.
If you put weed in the tank or wherever the inanga is it helps them live longer.
Action
Smart, always alert, hide in the weed.
Threats
People, eels, bigger fish, nets, dogs, sheep, cats,
Types in N.Z.
Giant  kokopu, Koaro, short jawed kokopu, banded kokopu, Inanga.
Now you know that there is another fish swimming round in your waterways.
From Henry
